Meet Tom
Tom turned downsizing into a new life path.
You should never stop learning.
At 62, Tom was working in manufacturing, but wasn’t passionate about his job. He knew he needed a change, but wasn’t sure what to do next. As he was considering his next step, he found out that his position was being eliminated, and the factory was shutting down. Instead of seeing this as a negative, Tom found opportunity, and set out on a new path.
Knowing he still had great years to give to a job, Tom decided to turn to a place where he says he has always had his best days, education. Having spent time previously as a teacher, he knows the importance of learning to grow the mind and body.
Tom enrolled in CVTC’s Digital Marketing program but wasn’t sure what reception he would receive due to his age. However, he says it has been an excellent experience with both the faculty and students treating him with respect.
In the future he wants to combine his love for art, music, and community engagement with the new creative skills he learns in the program. Tom hopes to promote his message of positivity, peace, and togetherness by marketing the art scene of the Chippewa Valley.
His message for older people considering coming back to school is that you should never stop learning, and the only way to keep up with an ever changing world is to keep yourself open to new information and opportunities.
Tom wants everyone to know that if he can do it, everyone can!
