Is the Physical Therapist Assistant Program Right For You?
Is CVTC’s Physical Therapist Assistant program right for you? Let’s take a look at what you can expect and the opportunities available to you.
You Can Succeed
Being a caring, empathetic person who wants to ease people’s pain and help them function in everyday life will help you succeed in CVTC’s Physical Therapist Assistant program.
Physical therapist assistants work under the direction of physical therapists implementing treatment programs to help patients relieve pain, improve mobility, and increase their function.
Your strong academic abilities will help you grasp the details and complexities of the human body and what techniques and procedures are most effective. But also essential are soft skills – being a good communicator, having patience, and being able to work with patients who are having difficulties in a way that helps them relax with you and make progress.
Though physical therapist assistants work directly under the direction of physical therapists, they must also be able to think on their own. That’s where your problem-solving and critical thinking skills come in. If this sounds like the qualities you possess, CVTC’s Physical Therapist Assistant program could be the right healthcare program for you.
We’ll Help You Succeed
The Physical Therapist Assistant program at CVTC can be difficult, but CVTC has the faculty and resources to help you through. The program has many open lab hours when you can come in to practice your skills and learn together with other students. Second-year students in the program develop mentoring relationships with the first-year students. The accessible and approachable faculty members encourage students to utilize them during office hours to receive special help.
CVTC’s Student Services resources are just a short walk away across the pedestrian bridge, giving students another opportunity for one-on-one help in all subject areas and for advice in developing good study skills.
CVTC Grads Employed at Area Healthcare Facilities
Because many area healthcare facilities host CVTC Physical Therapist Assistant students for clinical assignments, they become familiar with them and sometimes hire them for staff openings. HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital, Midwest Physical Therapy, Dove Health Care, and other local facilities have CVTC graduates on staff.
There are great opportunities for CVTC graduates to find work outside the area. Many areas of the country are experiencing great shortages of physical therapist assistants and welcome applicants from all parts of the country.
