Is the Accounting Program Right For You?
Is CVTC’s Accounting program right for you? Let’s take a look at what you can expect and the opportunities available to you.
You Can Succeed
As a person with an analytical mind, good attention to detail and a solid grasp of basic math, you already have some of the most important skills necessary to succeed in CVTC’s Accounting program. We’ll help you build on those skills and find success in the accounting profession.
You will learn more than just standard accounting principles used in business and government settings. You’ll learn how to apply knowledge of accounting and technology to constantly changing record keeping business challenges. Your abilities as a problem solver will be key, and so will your interpersonal and communication skills that are so important in every business environment today. Once you are well-prepared, you can find satisfaction in helping people and businesses succeed.
Opportunities Abound
There will always be a demand for good accountants, because every business needs them. Each year, dozens of companies come to CVTC to recruit Accounting program graduates. CVTC Accounting graduates are in private companies large and small, with some graduates employed in public accounting positions. Other graduates take advantage of tax preparation employment opportunities.
CVTC Accounting graduates can pick the type of company they’d like to work for and the type of accounting they’d like to do. In addition to traditional business and government accounting, opportunities are available in forensic accounting in which accounting professionals “follow the money” to aid in law enforcement investigations. Other opportunities are available in development of accounting technology and the recording and reporting of information.
You’ll be in Demand
While CPAs have the top accounting positions in larger businesses, accounting firms and financial institutions, there is plenty of demand for people with an associate degree in accounting, and businesses are anxious to hire CVTC graduates.
“There are very few jobs we have that require a four-year degree. Most of our employees with degrees have degrees from CVTC,” said Jerry Jacobson, president of Northwestern Bank in Chippewa Falls. “We’re looking to hire CVTC graduates whenever we can.”
“We have a very active relationship with CVTC in the Eau Claire and River Falls markets, and we are always open to hiring CVTC graduates,” said Russ Blasius, senior vice president of retail operations for WESTconsin Credit Union.
