Is the Central Service Technician Program Right For You?
Is CVTC’s Central Service Technician program right for you? Let’s take a look at what you can expect and the opportunities available to you.
You Can Succeed
If you have great attention to detail, and good problem solving and critical thinking skills the Central Service Technician program could be right for you. Central service technicians ensure that all instrumentation for the entire hospital is reprocessed within safe guidelines, guarding against the risk of infection due to incorrect processes. They are familiar with a long list of medical instruments and know what is supposed to be in a pan for particular surgical procedures. They research guidelines for the handling of instruments and are precise in following the directions of an instrument “recipe.”
Central service technicians have strong relationships with all of the departments in a hospital and know what each department expects of them. They enjoy working with a small group of co-workers, and have good communication with professionals in multiple departments.
If you are interested in a career in healthcare, but aren’t sure about taking a role in direct patient care, consider a career in central service.
Opportunities Abound
With four hospitals now in the Eau Claire-Chippewa Falls area and many other hospitals and clinics in smaller communities throughout the area, there are many jobs in the central service departments at health care facilities in the community.
CVTC Central Service Technician graduates can also work in a facility’s central supply department, which focuses on the disposable items used in the hospital. With experience, they can become a lead or manager in the department.
You’ll be in Demand
