Meet Melissa & Ricky
They wanted to change careers and do something they love.
I decided I wanted more out of life!
Ricky had worked in corrections for three years, but missed Wisconsin, and wanted to come back home. CVTC was close, had a good reputation for their Law Enforcement program and he decided to enroll.
Melissa’s family made a lot of sacrifices for her to be here. This is her second career, and was looking for a fresh start as an older adult with three kids. She had originally started out in education, then was a stay-at-home mom for 10 years, and when her kid’s went to school she knew she didn’t want to go back to education. She arranged a few drive alongs at CVTC and loved it.
Both say that the instructors, offering hundreds of years of experience, have offered a wealth of knowledge and lots of real world examples.
They understand that this is a difficult time for law enforcement and want to be part of the wave to build the trust back between the police and the community.
Ricky says there hasn’t been a day when he didn’t want to come to school and feels like they have built a family in the program, where everyone is pulling for each other to make it through.
Being older and female Melissa says she has a lot to bring to law enforcement, and if she can do this at 36 and keep up with her classmates she has proven that you are never too old to follow your dreams!
