Legal Studies/Paralegal Post-Baccalaureate Overview

Start your career in law with CVTC’s Legal Studies/Paralegal Post-Baccalaureate program. If you are detail-oriented, enjoy a new challenge each day, and have earned your bachelor's degree, our one-year, flexible, associate degree is for you! This program is designed to prepare you for a paralegal or legal assistant job or start your path to law school.

CVTC’s experienced instructors will help you explore many different legal disciplines, including criminal, family, employment, insurance, and real estate law in exciting hands-on classes.

Learn to investigate, research, write, prepare legal documents, and assist attorneys in the courtroom at trials and hearings. Plus, you will gain valuable real-world experience during an internship at an area law office or legal department. 

Your degree will lead to job opportunities working with lawyers in governmental agencies and private firms in a wide variety of fields. CVTC program graduates have also attended prestigious law schools, including the University of Wisconsin, Marquette University, and Hamline Mitchell School of Law.

In CVTC’s Legal Studies/Paralegal program, you will learn how to:

  • Investigate facts of a legal case
  • Perform case management tasks
  • Interview clients and witnesses
  • Prepare legal documents
  • Assist attorneys in courtroom trials and hearings

You will gain the following skills:

  • Critical thinking
  • Communication
  • Research

Please note that paralegals cannot give legal advice, represent clients in court, or otherwise engage in the unauthorized practice of law. The practice of law by non-attorneys is strictly prohibited by law.

* Please Note: Some course work offered through synchronous online learning in a fully online program. Program students must take a minimum of nine-semester credits of legal specialty coursework through remote synchronous instruction
