CVTC gathers local experts to offer tips on starting a business
Chippewa Valley Technical College is offering a free, two-hour event to help people thinking about launching their own business. Learn the first steps in starting a business from local experts during the Start a Business: Step One event from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14.
Tyler Van Helden, Accounting instructor and Entrepreneurship program director, said this event is an opportunity for people in the community to gain knowledge about how they can change their path and become a business owner.
“We hope attendees will gain the confidence to be successful business owners by hearing that you do not have to be perfect,” he said. “I have read plenty of stories glorifying entrepreneurs, but there are plenty of business-based struggles. It's nice to hear that everyone makes mistakes and that those snafus won’t ruin you or your business. This event will offer tips that can help keep you on track.”
During the event, learn from local entrepreneurial experts, successful entrepreneurs and resource providers through panel discussions, individual speakers and networking opportunities. The goal is to connect with local resources to get your business started.

Van Helden said he wants guests of the event to feel comfortable asking questions and gaining a sense of community.
“This event is community outreach to help those who are interested in starting their own business. The panel of local entrepreneurs have first-hand knowledge of challenges and successes,” Van Helden said. “It’s helpful to present cases of how a business is a series of good and not-so-good decisions that still lead to success.”
