What is TRIO Student Support Services?
TRIO Student Support Services is federally funded by the U.S. Department of Education. The program is designed to support students toward the successful completion of their postsecondary education. Our program serves 140 students and empower students to achieve their personal, career, and education goals.
Our program believes in providing holistic and individualized support services. This includes proactive advising, mentoring and coaching, college transfer tours and assistance, as well as social and cultural enrichment opportunities. In addition, TRIO SSS provides a supportive environment and a sense of community for students.
Goals of TRIO SSS
- Increase retention, graduation, and transfer rates of participants
- Increase the academic success of participants by ensuring they are meeting good academic standing
- Increase awareness of transfer options to a 4-year college and professional options
- Provide support for participants who are actively using TRIO Student Support Services resources to facilitate their personal, academic, and career success
- Maximize opportunities for financial assistance by improving the financial and economic literacy of participants
Who is eligible to participate in CVTC's TRIO SSS Program?
To qualify, a student must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, be working on their first college degree, enrolled at CVTC in a core program, present an academic need for additional support, and meet ONE of the following criteria:
- First-generation college students (which means that neither parent has completed a bachelor’s degree)
- Income eligible (determined by federal guidelines)
- Have a documented disability

CVTC TRIO Student Support Services is a 100% federally funded TRIO program serving 140 students annually with $261,888 awarded per budget period. TRIO SSS serves all program participants regardless of race, color, creed, religion, national or ethnic origin, gender, sexual orientation, disability, marital status, or age.
Frequently Asked Questions
What do I have to do?
Once you are accepted into our program, you will be required to complete the following each semester:
- Meet with a TRIO Advisor at least three times
- Attend two TRIO-approved workshops/events (either in-person or virtually)
- Attend one virtual TRIO Wellness Check-in
How long will I be in the program?
Participants can remain in the program until they graduate and/or transfer to another college.
How much time will the program take every semester?
This is up to you! It could be as little as a few hours per week. However, we hope that through our programming and meetings, you will want to be as involved as possible. TRIO meetings, workshops, discussions, and tutoring are offered to help ensure your success at CVTC and beyond.
How much does it cost to participate in TRIO SSS?
This the best part; all the TRIO grant-related activities are free! Whether we are doing an event here on campus or we take a trip into the community, you will never have to spend a dime on TRIO activities. All we ask is that you take full advantage of the resources that we make available to you.
