Teacher Education Career Pathway
CVTC and local high schools have partnered to offer incoming sophomores, juniors, seniors who are interested in the educational field, an opportunity to earn college credit. Dual credit academies allow high school students to navigate their interests and career options to develop the most successful and individualized career path. Credits earned through this academy can be applied to CVTC's Foundations of Teacher Education Associate Degree.
Education is a dynamic and ever - changing career field. Learn about the historical, philosophical, and social foundations of education. Explore issues and trends in elementary, middle, and secondary institutions, including WI and national regulations, fundamentals of teaching methodologies, learning styles, and basic assessment techniques. Students will also gain experience in creating and using web tools and online classroom techniques.
A personal laptop or iPad and access to a CVTC Google account are required to complete the academy.

Course Descriptions
EDU: Child and Adolescent Development (3 credits)
Provides an overview of physical, motor, perceptual, cognitive, social/emotional, growth and development from birth through adolescence. Analyzes social, parental, cultural, brain, and economic influences on development.
EDU: Overview of Special Education (3 credits)
Students evaluate models of behavior management, analyze social - emotional learning, and explain the importance of proactive management techniques. In addition, students evaluate models of behavior management, analyze behavior, and analyze the influence of Adverse Childhood Experiences on behavior to focus on developing skills to assist in empowering children to take an active role in self - control and classroom management.
