Welding - River Falls
CVTC and local high schools have partnered to offer incoming juniors and seniors who are interested in pursuing a career in welding the opportunity to earn high school and college credit. Dual credit academies give high school students a chance to navigate their interests and career options to develop the most successful individualized career path. Credits successfully earned through this academy may be applied to CVTC Welding programs. By successfully completing all three courses and the Workkeys Assessment for Industrial Skills, students will earn an Intro to GMAW Career Pathway Certificate. All of the academy courses listed below will be taught at Moody's - River Falls welding lab by CVTC instructors during the school year.

This academy is designed to provide basic skill levels for entry - level employment in the area of production welding. Students will learn welding safety, basic welding math, welding print reading, and wire feed processes. Completion of this academy will lead to CVTC one - year welding Career Pathway Certificate.

Course Descriptions
442 - 310 Welding Safety & Orientation
Introduces welding safety and standard operating procedures on equipment commonly used in welding labs/shops and on tools received in student's toolbox. Students will be able to receive an OSHA 10 safety certificate.
442 - 307 Welding Print Reading
Drawing fundamentals related to 2 and 3 view drawings; visual projection methods; freehand sketching; weld symbols and how to apply them. Interpret weld blueprints according to industry standards.
442 - 362 Gas Metal Arc Welding
Introduction to Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW, wire - feed welding, MIG). Develop skills with solid wire GMAW short - circuit transfer in various positions and joint designs.
442 - 380 Industrial Skills for Welders
In this course the student will develop math skills and job seeking skills for the welding career to meet the demand of today's industry. Application based math topics will address fractions, decimals, fraction conversion to decimals and metric equivalents, geometry and trig formulas, as well as algebraic problem solving. The student will use blueprints for layout calculations and technics. The student will also develop job seeking skills such as: employment search, resumes, application forms, and employer interviews.
