Steps for Admission
Step 1. Apply to the Criminal Justice - Law Enforcement Academy (both applications must be completed)
- Apply to CVTC for admissions to the Criminal Justice - Law Enforcement Academy
- View the general CVTC and DOJ minimum standards here.
- Apply to the Wisconsin Department of Justice Basic Law Enforcement, Jail, or Secure Juvenile Detention Officer Training (DJ-LE-327)
- Be sure to include answers to questions A-C in section “6. General”
Step 2. Submit Transcripts
- Submit a high school transcript or diploma showing all grades and date of graduation
- High School Education Requirement – Applicants must possess a general education development/high school equivalency (GED/HSED) or be a high school graduate who has completed a secondary education program through a public school, private school, an equivalency diploma program, or home education program within the United States or its territories. Criteria for proof of compliance include the following:
- A GED/HSED diploma
- A high school diploma issued by a public school or private school education program
- Home school program: Copies of form PI-1206 filed with the Department of Public Instruction for applicants who have completed a home school program in Wisconsin, or documentation that the education program has met the requirements of the Department of Education from the state where the home school program was completed
- High School Education Requirement – Applicants must possess a general education development/high school equivalency (GED/HSED) or be a high school graduate who has completed a secondary education program through a public school, private school, an equivalency diploma program, or home education program within the United States or its territories. Criteria for proof of compliance include the following:
- Submit an official college, university, or technical college transcript
- Official transcripts must come directly from the college to be deemed official. An official college transcript from the educational institution where credit was awarded shall serve as evidence of an applicant has met the associate degree or college credit requirement. School accreditation can be checked at the U.S. Department of Education website.
- Post-secondary Education Requirement of either:
- A 2-year associate degree from a Wisconsin Technical College System district or its accredited equivalent from another state
- A minimum of 60 accredited semester credits or 90 accredited quarter credits.
- Post-secondary Education Requirement of either:
- Official transcripts must come directly from the college to be deemed official. An official college transcript from the educational institution where credit was awarded shall serve as evidence of an applicant has met the associate degree or college credit requirement. School accreditation can be checked at the U.S. Department of Education website.
Step 3. Contact & Release of Information
- Sign and submit the Student Authorization for Release of Information (DJ-LE-310) allowing CVTC to release academic and other information
- Sign and submit the Release of Wisconsin Driving Record Information
- Applicant must possess a valid Wisconsin driver’s license or other valid operator’s permit recognized by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation as authorizing the operation of a motor vehicle in Wisconsin
- Out-of-state residents must request and submit a copy of a current out-of-state driving record to CVTC
- Complete a Wisconsin Criminal Background Check and Background Information Disclosure Form through Castlebranch.com, for instructions click here.
- A $39 fee will be required at the time of your order, and background checks processed for other entities will not be accepted
- Complete and submit your Contact Information
Step 4. Physical Assessment
- Print and complete the Medical Assessment (DJ-LE-332) form
- A physician, nurse practitioner, or physician’s assistant is required to complete the Medical Assessment form which concludes that, in their opinion, the applicant (you) has the ability to physically perform the duties of a law enforcement officer. You must scan and submit this form electronically via admissionsmail@cvtc.edu. Please note, that pictures of your form will not be accepted
- Sign up for the Physical Readiness (PRT) test
- After your Medical Assessment form has been signed and submitted to CVTC’s Admissions department, you will be contacted by an Admissions representative to register you for the PRT test

- You will be required to pass this test before being accepted into the Academy
Step 5. CVTC Commons Account Creation
- Set up your CVTC account - all persons who meet the minimum requirements will be notified via their CVTC email account on how to schedule the oral interview
Step 6. In-person Interview and Required Items to Bring
- Certified copy of the birth certificate (hospital records or scanned copies are not accepted)
- Valid driver's license
An oral interview will be conducted with a panel of law enforcement executives or with teaching or counseling staff affiliated with the training school to determine the applicant’s suitability for law enforcement officer employment and to assess the applicant’s demeanor, background, and ability to communicate.
Once all the above items have been completed, you will be considered for enrollment based on current openings in the program.

Financial Aid – Information on financial aid availability, procedures, and deadlines may be obtained by going to the Financial Aid page or by calling 715-833-6200.
Transfer Credit – Applicants with post-secondary credits should submit an official transcript* to the Admissions Office at admissionsmail@cvtc.edu for evaluation and possible transfer credit.
*Official transcripts must be submitted directly to CVTC from the educational institution by USPS mail or other recognized mail service providers in a sealed envelope or from a digital credential service (i.e., Parchment) approved by CVTC.
