Academic Advising & Student Success
Academic advisors assist students with developing academic plans based on their degree evaluations. Their goal is to plan the right pathway to graduation by maximizing students' potential and ensuring success based on the student's previous academic experience, career path, and responsibilities outside of being a student. Student success specialists assist students in overcoming barriers that many students encounter over their academic career. Their goal is to help students become academically successful by assisting with goal setting, interpersonal issues, success plans, and community-based referrals. More information can be found on Commons (Student Services & Support).

Delivery Method
Courses within the Business Management program are offered in multiple delivery formats including, but not limited to, face-to-face, online, blended, MyChoice, and Online Live. Students should confirm the availability and delivery method of these classes each semester. Not all classes and all delivery methods are offered at each campus. Many general education courses (800-level) are available online. Check the course offerings listing at www.cvtc.edu for more information.
Credit Load Options
Students have flexibility regarding how many credits they enroll in each semester of this program. The completion of the program may be affected if a student takes less credits than what is listed each semester. Students are encouraged to take classes over the summer, if offered, especially during more rigorous semesters. For example, students may consider splitting up Accounting and Economics. Please use "Search Course Offerings" for course availability or discuss options with your advisor.
Business Management Online
The Business Management program can be completed entirely online. Students are encouraged to schedule an online appointment with their advisor to get assistance with course sequencing and help with scheduling. To schedule an appointment, contact your advisor directly or call the Academic Advising, Student Success, and Career Development Office at 715-833-6346. Students who want help with any technology used in the program should visit our Online Learner Resources page.
Scheduling Considerations for River Falls Students
Please note not all courses within the Business Management program are offered face-to-face every semester at the River Falls campus. Plan ahead and register for a class when it is available.
Access to Software
Students enrolled at CVTC have access to free software through Office 365—Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote Access, Publisher, Outlook, Skype for Business and OneDrive for Business. Course-specific software may also be required - this will be specified by your instructor(s). 102-109 Business Analytics requires PowerBI and Tableau. 102-188 Project Management requires Microsoft Project.
Certificates
This program has related certificates. To learn more about certificate options, as a way to get started or to add to the degree, please see additional information on cvtc.edu under Programs & Courses.
Preparing for Your Internship
The Business Management Program offers an internship briefing each fall and spring that provides detailed information about the upcoming internship. Watch for an email and other communication about the internship briefing and requirements of the internship. You will need to find your own internship site, but you will have about three weeks at the beginning of the semester to locate a site. The internship instructor will provide some possible internship site names, but it's always smart to network. You should begin working at your internship site no later than week 6 of the semester. All internship sites must be approved by the internship instructor.
There is a possibility you may be able to use your current employer as your internship site, depending on the responsibilities you're assigned, the tasks you perform, and the flexibility of your employer. You MUST receive prior approval from the internship instructor before using your current employer as your internship site.
Business Management Internship
The Business Management Internship provides students an opportunity to apply the knowledge gained in your Business Management Program. You will perform management-type activities on a job site for 64 hours during the semester.
To fulfill the requirements of the internship, students should enroll in the 102-117 Business Management Career Planning course during their 2nd to last semester of the program, and enroll in the 102-115 Business Management Internship during the final semester of program. Students may also take Career Planning and Internship concurrently during their FINAL semester. The internship course must be taken the FINAL semester because all core program courses are prerequisites for the internship course. The internship course does not have a classroom component; it is the onsite portion of the internship.
Credit for Prior Learning (CPL)
CPL offers CVTC students an opportunity to earn college credit toward an associate degree or technical diploma for previous knowledge and mastered skills directly related to program curriculum. Previous knowledge and skills may be the result of work or volunteer experiences, certifications, apprenticeships, military experience, and courses completed at other institutions. If a student wishes to attempt CPL for a course in progress, it is imperative that CPL is attempted within the first week of the class to be eligible for a tuition refund. More information can be found at cvtc.edu/CPL.
804-134 Mathematical Reasoning
Students may be eligible to earn credit for the Mathematical Reasoning course if they have taken the WorkKeys assessment or scored a 25 or higher on the Math section of the ACT. If students have met the ACT score or taken the WorkKeys test, or would like to take the WorkKeys test in lieu of taking the Mathematical Reasoning course, please contact the Credit for Prior Learning office cpl@cvtc.edu for more details. Students are advised to contact CPL prior to the semester starting or within the first week of the class to ensure that if they pursue CPL, they are eligible for a tuition refund.
Academic Support
Free academic help including drop-in tutoring, test preparation, and technology support available online and face-to-face. More information is available on Commons (Student Services & Support).
Transfer Credit
Some of the courses in the Business Management program have two options for the same course content. These courses are listed as OR courses in the program requirement sheet. For students who intend to pursue a Bachelor's Degree, please check the following list to see which of the OR options is more likely to transfer. The other course may be appropriate for students who do not intend to transfer or want some more background work in that subject before attempting the transfer course. The following classes are suggested for students who plan to transfer:
- 804-189 – Introductory Statistics instead of 804-134 Mathematical Reasoning.
- 101-111 – Accounting I instead of 101-105 Intro to Accounting
Students planning to transfer to a university have the option to take 200-level courses that will count toward general education requirements in the four-year degree being pursued. While some of the 100-level general education courses listed on the program sheet may meet approval for transfer, the 200-level courses are more widely accepted for transfer. To determine what courses may transfer, utilize Transferology.com. Students should also contact the college or university they are pursuing to determine exactly what the school will accept and when to seek admission. Students should maintain contact with the other institution, given that program requirements are subject to change.
Financial Aid Consideration
Courses must be part of the student’s program to be eligible although some specific courses may not be eligible for financial aid. Students must follow their program requirements to be eligible for financial aid. To be eligible for financial aid, students must maintain Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress of a 2.0 Term GPA, 2.0 Cumulative GPA, complete 67% of attempted credits each semester, and complete their program by the time 150% of the published credits have been attempted.
Students with Disabilities
CVTC welcomes individuals with disabilities. We will provide and coordinate reasonable accommodations for all individuals with documented disabilities. Students that might benefit from accommodations during their college experience at CVTC can contact Diversity Resources at 715-833-6234 or diversity@cvtc.edu to determine what accommodations they may be eligible for and what documentation may be required.
Title IX Pregnancy and Postpartum
CVTC does not discriminate against any student on the basis of pregnancy or related conditions and will fully comply with Title IX regulations. Absences due to medical conditions relating to pregnancy and maternity leave will be excused for as long as deemed medically necessary by a student's medical provider, and students will be given the opportunity to make up missed work. Students are encouraged to contact Diversity Resources at 715-833-6234 or diversity@cvtc.edu to set up an appointment as soon as the pregnancy is known.
