Library & Information Services Overview

Become an information specialist! Libraries are often among the first place people go for assistance and information. If you have strong organization and customer service skills, CVTC’s new Library & Information Services program is the right choice for you. Gain real experience working in a library that will prepare you for a career at a public library, non-profit, school, or government organization. Upon completion of the program, you may gain employment as a Circulation Supervisor, Library Technician, Library Assistant, Reference Assistant, Media Assistant, or A/V Technician.

The Library & Information Services program is 100% online – which means you can study at a time that works best for you. This program is financial aid eligible, with no program textbooks to purchase and the option to receive credit for prior learning, which means you’ll earn your diploma at a fraction of the cost than at a four-year university. This program is a continuing education option for Wisconsin public library directors and K-12 teachers. Program credits will also transfer to UW-Milwaukee’s online IST bachelor degree program if you choose to continue your education.

Throughout the two-year program you will learn about:

  • Advocating the importance of libraries in communities
  • Educational and web-based technologies
  • Library administration
  • Managing and organizing collections
  • Copyright, licensing, and information ethics
  • Engaging children, young readers, and adults with library services
  • Effective use of print and online library services
  • Grant writing and programming

The first step toward your future career is the admissions process. Our online application is simple and takes approximately 20 minutes. Start the college admission process now and begin your path toward a career in the library and information science field!
