  RN Refresher Course

This online course provides an overview and update of nursing for Registered Nurses who are preparing to return to practice after an absence. The course is self-paced and is composed of faculty-supervised independent study modules; 25 hours skills lab review; and 100 hours of supervised clinical experience. PUBLIC NOTICE OF UPCOMING ACCREDITATION REVIEW VISIT BY THE ACEN

The Chippewa Valley Technical College wishes to announce that it will host a site visit for continuing accreditation of its Associate Degree Nursing program by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). 

The public is invited to meet with the site visit team and share comments about the program in person at a meeting scheduled at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 10, 2024, in room 117 of the Health Education Center, 615 W. Clairemont Avenue, Eau Claire, WI 54701. 

Written comments are also welcome and should be submitted to the ACEN via email at public-comments@acenursing.org or to the ACEN office:

Bloodborne Pathogens

Students entering health programs at CVTC should understand the risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens, including Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and HIV/AIDs, through saliva and blood with direct patient care as part of their education.

This exposure can be minimized or eliminated using a combination of engineering and work practice controls, personal protective clothing and equipment, training, medical surveillance, Hepatitis B vaccination, signs and labels, and other provisions.

All programs at CVTC comply with local, state, and federal infection control policies, including the use of standard precautions as stipulated by current CDC guidelines. Written policies and instructions on infection control protocol to minimize the risk of disease transmission is provided throughout the courses in the curriculum. Compliance of safety practices is evaluated throughout the students' clinical experiences to ensure a safe educational environment.

Complex Health Alterations 1
This course prepares the learner to expand knowledge from previous courses in caring for clients across the lifespan with alterations in cardiovascular, respiratory, endocrine, and hematologic systems as well as clients with fluid/electrolyte and acid-base imbalance, and alterations in comfort.

Nursing Advanced Skills
Content includes advanced IV skills, blood product administration, chest tube systems, basic EKG interpretation, and nasogastric/feeding tube insertion.

Complex Health Alterations 2
Students will expand knowledge and skills from previous courses in caring for clients across the lifespan with alterations in the immune, neuro-sensory, musculoskeletal, gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, renal/urinary, and the reproductive systems.
